Enmeshment Definition-See Blog Post Picture of Bicycle enmeshed in a Grown Tree

Enmeshment is a term used in psychology to express the unnatural tendency for pathogenic parents to subsume their children’s personality in order to mediate their own pathologies.  In the process the child does not develop properly and the enmeshment results in what is referred to as an ‘undifferentiated ego mass.’

This IS psychological child abuse.

The child’s attachment to the narcissistic parent appears to be very close, even unnaturally close.  Even though it may appear as normal-range behavior it is in fact a sign of an insecure attachment.
